Meet the Steering Group

AccXel’s Steering Group has responsibility for the overall function and wellbeing of the new centre, ensuring its financial stability and attainment of strategic goals from the beginning of the build, to the moment we open the doors to learners and beyond.

To help us in this mission, we’re proud to have brought together a great team of experienced people from some of the region’s most forward-thinking construction companies and education providers:

Igniting interest in construction as a career choice for all, where everyone can excel

AccXel is the first construction industry-led education facility in the UK, set up to inspire people to make construction THEIR career choice and to facilitate business owners in their mission and purpose to make people THEIR priority.

Encouraging greater diversity, AccXel will enable every learner to explore the variety of long-term career opportunities available in today’s modern construction industry, providing training in state-of-the-art surroundings to realise their potential.

With a focus on sustainability and digital construction, the workforce of tomorrow will be highly skilled in using the latest technologies, reducing the skills gap by equipping the industry for the future.

Providing pathways into construction and increasing diversity

Through a dedicated schools’ outreach programme, AccXel aims to help young people aspire to a career in construction. When this choice becomes a reality, our collaboration with Gloucestershire College and the University of Gloucestershire provides education and training opportunities from 16-years upwards, including apprenticeships from NVQ Level 1 through to undergraduate degrees. AccXel also provides pathways and support for people looking to the construction industry for a change of career, and employers wanting to upskill their workforce.

Working with key partners to bring the industry into the classroom, learners will have access to real and virtual safety-first working environments including a mock ‘live’ construction site, high-tech digital machinery, drones for use by trainee surveyors and simulators for safely training operatives in the use of heavy plant. The versatile 980m2 building facilitates adaptive learning, encouraging interaction and participation that accelerates skills development.

Working in collaboration with

Connecting highly-skilled people with future-looking employers

The construction industry is critical in driving forward the recovery following the Covid-19 pandemic, as well as helping the UK to reach its carbon reduction and green building targets. But it also has a serious skills shortage, both nationally and regionally.

This is where AccXel plays a vital role in connecting individuals, educators and employers to understand how construction is changing and invest in developing people with the skills required to support its needs now and in the future.

That’s why AccXel has been developed by the industry, for the industry, and we’re excited to be working in partnership with some of the biggest names in construction such as JCB, as well as other future-looking employers in Gloucestershire, South Wales and beyond.
