Frequently asked Questions
General Info

What courses do you do?

We currently offer apprenticeships, our bespoke Skill STEPS© Programmes, Health & Safety courses and Plant Training.

How do I apply for an apprenticeship?

To apply for our apprenticeships, fill in our online application form here.

How old do I have to be an apprentice?

You will need to be at least 16 years old to start an AccXel apprenticeship. We welcome applications from all ages, whether you’re a school leaver or career changer.

For our JCB Plant Operations apprenticeship, we recommend only applying if you are over the age of 18. We want you to get the most out of your education and due to health and safety restrictions anyone under the age of 18 will not be allowed to operate heavy machinery on site.

How much will I get paid as an apprentice?

Your pay is entirely dependent on the employer. The minimum wage for an apprentice is at least £4.81 per hour.

Who will I be partnered with?

We will match you to an employer based on your skills, experience, location and travel needs. However, if there is a particular Employer that you would like to work with, please let us know in your application.

Employers

How are your apprenticeships different from other colleges?

Our apprenticeships have been specifically created for the construction industry. After conducting numerous case studies on current apprenticeship programmes, we concluded that new recruits were not being fully prepared or trained for work on construction sites, and they had significant skills and knowledge gaps. On our apprenticeship programmes, we have ensured that our curriculums fully prepare all new workers for prosperous careers in our sector.

Do we need to recruit apprentices?

Recruiting your own apprentices is entirely optional. Whilst AccXel will be doing the majority of the recruitment, we highly recommend working alongside our team to promote this opportunity.

Why should I upskill my workforce?

Upskilling your workforce has a multitude of benefits, such as better employee retention, higher staff satisfaction, improving team morale and better productivity. However, one of the biggest reasons for upskilling your current members of staff is that you can fill specific skills gaps within your team. Parents

How many students will be in a class?

At AccXel, we have small class sizes to bolster the learning experience. There will be 15 pupils in our Groundworks and Bricklaying apprenticeships and 10 on our JCB Plant Operations apprenticeship programme.

How much does it cost parents?

An AccXel Apprenticeship will not cost you anything.

Is there transportation to the centre?

We have a school bus that can pick apprentices up from the local train and bus stations. Please let our team know if your son/daughter needs transport arranged for them.

Will there be transport arranged to and from site?

Employers can arrange transport to and from site, should your son/daughter need it.
