Bricklaying

What is a Bricklayer
Bricklayers are one of the best-known trades in construction, and are responsible for one of the most important elements of a project. They are primarily responsible for laying bricks, pre-cut stone, and concrete blocks to construct, repair and extend a variety of structures.

They are also responsible for:

  • Working accurately from construction plans and specifications
  • Measuring out build areas and setting out the first rows of bricks
  • Using hand tools, power tools and brick-cutting machines
  • Repairing and maintaining building blocks
  • Damp proofing the foundations
Course Details
Our Bricklaying Apprenticeship is 30 months long and is only open to people residing in England at the moment.

For the first 3 weeks of the programme, apprentices will attend AccXel full time. In this mandatory block of training, you will receive basic health and safety training, inductions and support training prior to starting work on site.

Following this initial training, apprentices will attend AccXel one day a week for the remainder of the course. *

Our apprenticeship combines theoretical learning alongside practical sessions on our unique ‘mock-live’ site. This allows our apprentices to hone their skills in a risk-free environment, prior to implementing them on a live site.

By the end of the apprenticeship, you will gain an NVQ in Bricklaying, and will have the requisite qualifications to obtain the Skilled Worker CSCS card (subject to passing the Health, Safety and Environment Test).

*Please note that there will be a second 3-week block of training mid-way through the apprenticeship.

What topics does the apprenticeship cover?
  • Understanding working drawings
  • Basic brickwork and wall construction
  • Masonry cladding and joining work
  • Substructure brickwork
  • Cavity wall structures
